Gratitude and Appreciation

my journey into being thankful for what i have

on November 19, 2013

There’s something so very special about hymns… the older songs of the faith, the ones that have been around for decades and decades, with thousands of people singing them over that time… while you sing them, you can really feel how connected we are with other believers throughout the ages, singing the same songs.  What a cool thing!  Nowadays, churches don’t sing hymns as much as they used to.  We have praise and worship songs that are displayed on big screens, so hymnals are rapidly becoming a thing of the past (along with four part harmony, sadly!).  But maybe that makes hymns even more special, because they aren’t as common as they used to be.  I’m a huge fan of the praise and worship music, but I really do love hymns.  And I grateful that they’re around, and we have so many amazing stories told through them!  It Is Well With My Soul has a pretty incredible story, but there are many others.

All that to say that today, I am grateful for hymns.  The things they teach us, and the ways they help us grow… like they have done for many before us, and will continue to do for many after us.  =-)
